ECHS Cross Country Team Runs in Watonga

Elk City High School Cross Country runners improved their times in the second Meet of the season. The team competed against 227 runners at the Watonga Cross Country Invitational on August 26.

Elk City High School Cross Country runners improved their times in the second Meet of the season. The team competed against 227 runners at the Watonga Cross Country Invitational on August 26.

ECHS boys raced to a 5th place finish out of 12 teams in the varsity boys 4k and brought home two individual medals from a field of 132 runners. Jack Morgan finished in 4th place with a time of 13:46.72 and Zach Rhodes finished in 23rd place with a time of 14:56.52, earning both seniors medals for a Top 30 finish. Also competing for the ECHS boys were Freshman Luke Thomas in 34th place, Freshman Colton Nebhut in 66th place, Sophomore Sonny Holladay in 69th place, Senior Jaser Reyes in 74th place, Sophomore Jesse Nightingale in 94th place and Sophomore Eli Shelton in 96th place.

ECHS Junior Gabby Gilliam, Freshman Natilee Youngbull and Sophomore Kate Ivester competed against 95 runners in the varsity girls’ 2500m race. Gilliam finished in 38th place with a time of 11:40.93, followed by Youngbull in 55th place and Ivester in 65th place.

Elk City Middle School runners will compete Thursday in Merritt before both teams have a weekend off over the Labor Day break. Next up for ECHS and ECMS Cross Country teams is the Warrior Spirit XC Classic in Cache on Friday, September 8.
