Greetings to Sayre Eagle Community,
We are thrilled to welcome everyone back for another exciting year at our school. The halls are buzzing with energy and excitement as our dedicated staff prepares for the arrival of students.
The first day of school is August 17th. We look forward to a great start to this school year.
We have some new faces at Sayre Elementary School. In the upper elementary, Katie Swint will be the 3rd grade Science/Social Studies teacher and Staci Barker will be the 4th grade Science/Social Studies teacher. In early childhood, we have Mary Houck taking on the role of first-grade teacher. Kailee Lennox, who joined us last January will be returning as our early childhood special education teacher.
We have Kari Johnson returning, but taking on a new role as our 5th grade English Language Arts teacher.
Please stop by the elementary office if you have not enrolled your child yet. The elementary office and administrative staff reports Tuesday, August 1st, 8:00-3:00 p.m., or you can call us at 580-9282013.
Students will NOT be able to start school until we have received a copy of their up-todate shot record (or exemption form if necessary), birth certificate, and proof of residency.
Parents, please let your child know that we will be mailing out postcards with a note from their teacher. Students who turned in pre-enrollment in the spring or enroll by August 2 will get a postcard. Postcards should arrive between August 10-14. If your mailing address has changed, please contact the elementary office with the new address as soon as possible.
Elementary Meet the Teacher will be on August 15th, 5:00-7:00 p.m. More specific details will be included on your child’s postcard. Depending on the makeup of the class, some teachers may divide times by last name or gender; for example, boys visit the first hour, then girls the second hour. We try to stagger the times so the teacher can have smaller groups to allow for introductions. Parents and students will enter through the front doors of the elementary and be guided to the classrooms. School supplies will be dropped off in the classrooms.
Regarding daily morning drop-off, we ask that parents not drop off their students before 7:30 a.m. Students dropped off before that will be unsupervised. Breakfast service will stop at 7:55 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:05 a.m.
During the first two days of school (August 17/18), we ask parents/guardians of PreK and Kindergarten students not to send their students on a school bus. Kindergarten will need to be dropped off in the back parking lot at 8:30 a.m. Prek will need to be dropped off in the back parking lot at 9:30 a.m. Teachers will be there to receive them. The late start time minimizes some of the anxiety that comes with the first days of school. Starting August 21, Prek & Kindergarten students will have regular arrival times as outlined above.
*Due to safety concerns, afternoon pick up procedures will be a little different starting this year.
The back parking lot pickup will be specifically for Pk-1st car riders. Grades 2-5 need to be picked up in the front. If you utilize the car line do not park and exit your vehicle. Parking spaces are available in the front or back if you need to park. More information will be available at Meet the Teacher.
None of the updates and classroom changes over the summer would be possible without the help of our maintenance team- Carmen Oldfi eld, Mary Bell, Clayton Kilgore, Weldon Kilgore, and Von Wells. So much work goes into preparing each classroom and hallway for students in August. In addition, early childhood classrooms got new Promethean Boards.
Thank you to our superintendent Danny Crabb for his hands-on work at each site. We both appreciate all he does for the students and staff at Sayre Elementary School.
In conclusion, let us embark on the 2023-2024 school year with enthusiasm and determination.
We encourage both parents and community members to stay connected and involved. We will regularly post events and activities on the Sayre Elementary School Facebook page and our district website. Your involvement makes an enormous difference in the lives of our students.
