Merritt Junior High and EC Junior High play tight softball game

Merritt Oilerettes JH’s effort to come back from down four runs in the third inning came up just short, as they fell 5-4 to Elk City Middle School on Friday. Merritt Oilerettes JH closed the gap by scoring on a home run and a ground out.

Merritt Oilerettes JH were the first to get on the board in the second when Keeley Touchstone grounded out, scoring one run.

Elk City Middle School flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 5-1 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Lexie Gilliland that drove in two.

Merritt Oilerettes JH scored two runs in the bottom of the third on an inside the park home run by Allie Britton on the sixth pitch of the at-bat.

Cali Blankenship stepped in the circle first for Merritt Oilerettes JH. They allowed seven hits and five runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Lynlee Pogue stepped in the circle first for Elk City Middle School. The righty allowed four hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking one.

WGracie Winston, Lexa Snuggs, Britton, and Taylor Hust each collected one hit for Merritt Oilerettes JH. Britton led Merritt Oilerettes JH with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Merritt Oilerettes JH turned one double play in the game.

Pogue and Camden Brewster each collected two hits for Elk City Middle School. Gilliland drove the middle of the lineup, leading Elk City Middle School with two runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day.
