A 34-year-old Elk City
man is being held on a $20,000 bond after being charged with kidnapping, domestic abuse, domestic assault and battery by strangulation and intentionally interrupting an emergency telephone call.
The investigation began at approximately 4:41 pm on July 29 after the Elk City Police Department received a call that a female was reportedly screaming for help at a residence on the 1200 block of 6th Street.
Two ECPD officers responded.
At the residence, officers met with Christopher Bird who permitted the officers to speak with the female resident of the home.
The officer reportedly learned that Bird had allegedly busted her lip and took her phone so she could not call for help.
The woman allegedly said she was screaming for help from the bathroom and Bird “didn’t want to get in trouble.”
She also reported that Bird had allegedly choked her. Officers checked for physical signs of choking but stated that they could not see them then.
Bird allegedly began hitting the woman and would not let her out of the door.
The officer also reportedly observed that the shower curtain was down, where the alleged choking reportedly occurred.
The officer stated that he observed a fresh red and blue bruise under the woman’s eye and redness on her face.
Additionally, he reportedly observed injury on the inside of her lip, blood on the left corner of her mouth, blood from a broken fingernail, and a fresh bruise on her right leg.
After being taken into custody, Bird reportedly voluntarily disclosed (without the officer asking questions) that the woman had a “drug problem” and allegedly forgot where the drugs were.
Bird reportedly said that she “went crazy on him.”
Bird then alleged that the woman had come after him and allegedly hit him with a tool she had.
The officer allegedly observed blood on Bird’s t-shirt, which has been taken into evidence.
