A 46-year-old Arkansas man is being held on a $100,000 bond in the Beckham County Detention Center after reportedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase.

David William Brown II was charged with eluding offi cers, kidnapping, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a schedule I or II drug, malicious injury to property less than $2,500, and felon in possession of a firearm.

On May 21, the Elk City Police Department sent a “Be On the Lookout,” or BOLO, for a wanted person driving a red Nissan pickup with a black hood.

The person was identified as Brown.

At approximately 12:42 pm, the Beckham County Undersheriff Jeff Miller was driving eastbound on I-40 near the 8-mile marker when he reportedly saw a vehicle matching the BOLO description. The undersheriff reportedly turned around in an effort to catch the pickup, which then allegedly began traveling at a high rate of speed.

The undersheriff reportedly saw the pickup exit I-40 at exit 5, at which point he lost sight of the pickup.

Two Beckham County Sheriff’s Office deputies were advised of the situation and proceeded to the area of the sighting.

The two detectives traveled north on 1720 Road, where they spoke with a farmer who reportedly said that he had seen the pickup traveling at a high rate of speed on that road.

The detectives then spoke with Beckham County Sheriff Derek Manning, who advised that he was searching around Highway 152 and Highway 30.

At approximately 1:16 pm, the sheriff advised that he had reportedly located the vehicle approximately one mile east of the state line and was in pursuit of the vehicle.

The Nissan reportedly continued to drive around the area, taking different country roads while running multiple stop signs.

The vehicle then drove down an oilfield road that was a dead end.

The vehicle then allegedly drove through two fences, going through a field, to eventually return to the original oilfield road until getting back

The pursuit continued as an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper joined and took the lead position in the pursuit.

At approximately 1:27 pm, the sheriff advised that the vehicle had driven through another fence on the south side of the 1150 Road.

“Sheriff Manning then advised that the vehicle crashed into a creek out in the field,” the reporting detective wrote.

A second BSCO deputy arrived on the scene and assisted the sheriff and the trooper in holding the vehicle and its occupants at gunpoint until more units could arrive.

A short time later, the two BCSO detectives arrived and saw a female walking toward the patrol vehicles.

The woman was taken into custody. She advised that the driver was Brown and reportedly said he had a pistol.

She also allegedly said that Brown wanted “Suicide by Cop.”

During this time, multiple troopers, deputies, and other agencies arrived on the scene to assist.

The reporting detective gave commands over a PA system until approximately 1:45 pm when Brown walked out of the field with his hands in the air.

Brown then complied with all commands and was placed under arrest.

Both Brown and the woman were transported to the Beckham County Detention Center.

The undersheriff remained at the scene and assisted the wrecker service.

Through the inventory process, law enforcement allegedly found what appeared to be methamphetamine, a pistol, several IDs not belonging to Brown or the woman, drug paraphernalia, one Texas license plate, and a large yellow bag containing GPS equipment belonging to the Forestry Department.

The detective then spoke with the woman after reading the Miranda warning.

The woman reportedly stated that she had been with Brown for approximately a month and had gotten together in Arkansas.

She allegedly said that they had stayed at an Elk City hotel the previous night when Elk City Police officers had come to the hotel.

The woman stated that this caused Brown to “take off.”

The woman said that she had gone to a nearby convenience store for cigarettes when Brown pulled up and reportedly commanded that she get in.

Brown allegedly accused the woman of “snitching on him.”

The woman had reportedly asked Brown to let her exit the vehicle multiple times during the pursuit but said that he would not allow it.
