A 30-year-old Elk City man was charged with second and subsequent DUI, child endangerment, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving without safety or regard for others, and expired registered in the Beckham County District Court on July 18.

Ammon had been initially charged with this case early in the month as a misdemeanor, but it was re-filed as a felony.

Ammon was released on a $5,000 bond in relation to the case on July 6.

The investigation began on July 2. An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper had overheard the Elk City Police Department dispatcher put out a reckless driver alert for I-40 near the 43-mile marker in a black Chevrolet car.

The reporting party had allegedly said the vehicle was passing others in the median and ditch.

The trooper was able to contact the reporting party, who allegedly stated the Chevy was at the 41-mile marker and had gotten back on the interstate.

The trooper was able to be ahead of the reported car, and activated his back-facing radar.

The vehicle was allegedly driving 83 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Ammon’s speech was allegedly slurred. A sleeping child was reportedly in the car. Ammon allegedly admitted to having “3-4 shots.”
