Third Annual Dust Bowl Days Farm and Ranch Festival to be this weekend at Sayre Park

2023 Wild Plum Jam packed with musical talent

After a year of hard work and planning, the Dust Bowl Days Farm and Ranch Festival and Wild Plum Jam committee members believe this year’s 3-day extravaganza is slated to be their best year yet.

“Everything’s happening in Sayre, Oklahoma, this coming weekend, and there really is something for everyone! For rodeo lovers, live music lovers, and Moms and Dads who really need a date night but have all the little wranglers clamoring, ‘What can we do?’ The Dust Bowl Round-Up is on Friday night at the Sayre City Park Rodeo Arena. Gates open at 5 pm,” the committee advised.

The Sayre High School FFA will be hosting their “famous” Calf Fry fundraiser, a free event.

The Dean Jackson Band, an annual fan favorite, will be playing a free after-party at the Sayre National Golf Course on Friday. A donation allows for free entrance.

The Kiddie Corral will be available in the clubhouse for children.

The Nightlingers Food Truck will also be at the golf course for this event.

The 2023 Heritage Parade begins at 10 am in downtown Sayre on the east side of Main Street.

Before the Parade, Fantasy Faces Facepainting will be at Great Plains National Bank. Sayre First Baptist Church will provide sno-cones in front of Dr. Epps’s office, and Sayre ACE will provide free popcorn in front of the movie theatre.

Orange Willow Boutique will give free candy to children. Festival t-shirts are available for purchase.

Local celebrity Jimmy Clark will once again serve as the parade announcer.

“Laverne Tucker is our honored Grande Dame of the Heritage Parade,” the committee said. “Makenna Valdez and Cassidy Crabb will sing our National Anthem and lead the crowd in singing our state song, Oklahoma!”

Room is still available for spots in the Parade. Interested parties should call Sherry Damron at (580)374-2845.

After the Parade, head on out to Sayre City Park for a great afternoon of free, family fun. The park will be open from 11-3 for activities that include free swimming and miniature golf, Nelda Tucker’s Learn & Play Kids Zone, and the “OPEN MIC” set under the Pavilion. Cody Clark, Blacksmith, will demonstrate his craft in the park & Ranger Kate from the Washita Battlefield Center will be present for the kids. The RT 66 Pop-Up Plaza offers various vendors and some of your favorite food trucks. The retail vendors scheduled to be in the park are Lewis One Studios (caricatures & street art), Kelsey Pickens Photography, JJ’s Gift Shop, The Rug Ranch, Carol’s Hand Made, DJ Home Décor & More, B’s Drink Merch, Granite Silver Jewelry & Krafty Okie Mama. Food trucks in the park will be Abby’s Authentic Mexican Food, The Nightlinger’s Grill, Pacific Brim, Kona Ice, Sno Way Shaved Ice & KT Mini-Donuts.

The Heritage Day festivities will end, and the park will close temporarily at 3:00 pm. Everyone is invited to come back to the park when the gates open at 4:00 pm for the 2023 KECO 96.5 & WHEELER GENERAL STORE “WILD PLUM JAM,” brought to you by HUTCH’S, MOMENTUM TRANSPORTS & OUTLAW OILFIELD SUPPLY. Tickets to this event are $50/person and can be purchased, online, when you visit a Hutch’s C-Store or the Wheeler General Store, where posters with a QR code taking you to the link to buy tickets, are on-site. You can also find that link on the Dust Bowl Days Farm & Ranch Festival Facebook page and go to the website, Dustbowldays. com. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate the day of the event. This year, Joe Merrick (with the Even Money Band) will take the stage at 4:30 pm, Tyler Wilhelm at 6 pm, Micky & the Motorcars at 8 pm, and, closing out the night, Asleep at The Wheel at 10 pm. Back by popular demand! Homemade Biscuits & Wild Plum Jelly will be sold during the concert! Ice chests will not be allowed inside the park this year. Adult beverages may be purchased through the Sayre National Golf Clubhouse or their Hospitality Tent close to the stage. Food trucks and vendors will be located within walking distance from the music festival stage. Parking is free. Only those with a festival wristband will be allowed in the park from 4 pm to midnight on Saturday.

Closing out this year’s festival is another fan favorite, “SUNDAY SINGING AND DINNER ON THE GROUND”, beginning Sunday evening at 7 pm in the City Park Pavilion. Taking the stage is the incredible talent of Gary Dean, Denise Parman, Jill Drake & Joe Merrick, Maridian Bales, Sayre Refuge Church, Greg Hartman, Sayre Baptist Church Ensemble, Joe Burch & Tawny Keith/Jerri Headrick. Bring your dinner or enjoy the great food from Mitzies Food Truck, which will be on-site during the evening. Join us in this classic & meaningful closing to this year’s festival!
