It is my great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all SHS alumni as they return home for another exciting alumni weekend. This is an opportunity for everyone to reconnect with friends and family and relive those unforgettable moments that make us appreciate our high school days.
The weekend is packed with several exciting events and activities, with some on-campus events taking place, including the annual softball and basketball games on Friday night. This year, we are thrilled to introduce a new addition to the weekend’s lineup, “The Hometown Follies,” a talent show featuring alumni and current SHS students. This unique event will be held in the auditorium on Thursday night and is sure to entertain those in attendance.
The alumni weekend also features the annual alumni luncheon, which will be held on Saturday from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm in our newly renovated cafeteria. We are proud to announce that the proceeds from the luncheon will go towards supporting After Prom activities.
It is an exciting time at Sayre Schools as we continue to improve our facilities. You may notice the dirt work on the east side of the campus, where a new state-of-the-art track is currently under construction. The track will be an incredible facility for the sport that has become increasingly popular among students, with over 100 students from sixth to twelfth grade participating.
Our students continue to excel in many activities this year, and we are proud to share a small sample of recent achievements with our alumni. Last week, The Pride of Sayre Band scored straight Superior ratings at the state band contest for the seventh year in a row, continuing the tradition as the best small school band program Oklahoma has to offer. The high school’s STEM program is on an upward trajectory, with one of its robotics teams winning the state robotics competition in Muskogee last month. The win qualified the team for the World Competition to be held later this month in Dallas, Texas. Our track teams have shown considerable promise, with numerous talented students bringing home medals and team honors at recent meets. The shooting sports, powerlifting, and livestock showing teams were also wellrepresented at the state level, as multiple students placed high in their divisions. It has been a great spring for Sayre students!
As the superintendent of Sayre Schools and an SHS alumnus myself, I am delighted to welcome you all back home. Please enjoy safe travels and another unforgettable alumni weekend in Sayre!
