A 49-year-old Erick man has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with one felony count of affi xing improper plates to a vehicle and one misdemeanor count of driving under suspension.
The investigation began on June 21 at approximately 8:38 pm when an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper saw a vehicle pulled over on I-40 at the 25-mile marker.
“The subject stated the vehicle was overheating, and he was waiting for it to cool off. The driver then stated he was going to his dad’s house near the TA gas station. The subject got in the vehicle and left,” the trooper wrote.
The trooper then ran the tag number on the car, realizing that the tag returned to a 2004 GMC but was on a 2001 Oldsmobile.
The trooper then pursued the vehicle and noticed it was allegedly traveling at “100 mph in a 55 mph zone.”
The trooper reportedly saw the vehicle turn into a home in Sayre.
The trooper did not activate his emergency lights, and the man reportedly walked toward the trooper to give himself up.
Carl Lee Keahey, Jr., was then taken into custody.
