A 30-year-old Elk City man has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center on a $7,500 bond after being charged with reckless conduct with a weapon, discharging a firearm in a public place, felon in possession of a firearm, and disturbing the peace by drunk and disorderly behavior.

A 30-year-old Elk City man has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center on a $7,500 bond after being charged with reckless conduct with a weapon, discharging a firearm in a public place, felon in possession of a firearm, and disturbing the peace by drunk and disorderly behavior.

The investigation began at approximately 10:34 am on June 15 when an Elk City Police Department officer was traveling westbound on Country Club in Elk City.

As the officer approached the 1300 block of Country Club, he observed a white male subject “acting erratically” in front of a home. The man was identified as Edward Wilhite.

Wilhite reportedly alleged two different men had tried to break into his home.

“While speaking with Wilhite, dispatch informed me that a 911 caller had reported that a male subject dressed in blue jeans and a blue shirt had been shooting a pistol outside in the 1400 block of Becky Court,” the officer wrote.

Wilhite reportedly matched the description.

The officer did not find weapons on Wilhite, but Wilhite allegedly told the officer that he had “dropped it by a fence in the area of Mary and Becky Court.”

Wilhite allegedly admitted to firing the weapon.

“Wilhite stated that he used dope (speed) this morning,” the officer wrote.

Officers were able to locate a revolver in that area.

A second ECPD officer reportedly found bullet holes in the house where it appeared that Wilhite had fired the weapon.

Wilhite was previously convicted of a felony charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in Washita County.
