When the first Dust Bowl Days debuted three years ago, not even the organizers could have predicted how it would explode.
The City of Sayre swelled with eager participants.
Last year, the committee launched the coinciding Wild Plum Jam.
The group is now committed to growth. “We are keeping so much of what has worked, tweaked a few things that didn’t, and are convinced this will be the best festival ever,” the group said.
The Dust Bowl Round-Up will kick off the weekend on Friday night at the Sayre City Rodeo Arena.
Gates open at 5 pm, and Sayre High School FFA will host their “famous calf fry” fundraiser at 6 pm.
The Farm and Ranch Round-Up will start at 7 pm.
This farm and ranch rodeo event has been a fan favorite.
The event is free. The Round-Up After Party will then be at the Sayre National Golf Course, featuring the Dean Jackson Band.
Entry is free with a donation to the Dust Bowl Days. The DBD Kiddie Corral will allow kids to have a safe place to play and healthy snacks while adults enjoy music.
The Nightlingers Food Truck will be on-site for the event.
The parade will kick off in downtown Sayre at 10 am on Saturday.
“Always a fan favorite, there will be a bootfull of entries that include vintage and new farm equipment, riding clubs (Shriners, kids, horses), Family Farm floats, business entries, youth organizations, social service groups, and more! There will be face-painting, snow cones, popcorn, music, and other fun stuff on Main Street before the parade,” the group said.
After the parade, head on out to Sayre City Park, located on Historic RT 66, for a great afternoon of free, family fun. The park will be open from 11:00 am-3:00 pm for Heritage Day activities that include free swimming and miniature golf, Nelda Tucker’s Learn & Play Kids Zone, where children will have the opportunity to play games, make crafts and visit with Ranger Kate from the Washita Battlefield; from noon-3 pm, under the covered pavilion, we will host “OPEN MIC” – a time for anyone of any age who wants to show off their secret (or not so secret) talents may do so! Singing, dancing, magic shows, reciting poetry – if you want to share it, here’s your venue! The RT 66 Pop-Up Plaza offers a wide variety of vendors and some of your favorite food trucks, who will be cooking great food, so come hungry!
The Heritage Day festivities will end, and the park will temporarily close at 3:00 pm. Everyone is invited to come back to the park when the gates open at 4:00 pm for The 2023 KECO 96.5 & WHEELER GENERAL STORE “WILD PLUM JAM”, brought to you by HUTCH’S, MO- MENTUM TRANSPORTS & OUTLAW OILFIELD SUPPLY. Tickets to this event are $50/ person and can be purchased online when you visit Hutch’s C-Store or the Wheeler General Store, where posters with a QR code take you to the link to buy tickets on-site. You can also find that link on the Dust Bowl Days Farm & Ranch Festival Facebook page and go to the website, Dustbowldays. com. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate on the day of the event. This year, Joe Merrick (with the Even Money Band) will take the stage at 4:30 pm, Tyler Wilhelm at 6 pm, Micky & the Motorcars at 8 pm, and, closing out the night, Asleep at The Wheel at 10 pm. Back by popular demand! Homemade Biscuits & Wild Plum Jelly will be sold during the concert! Ice chests will not be allowed inside the park this year. Adult beverages may be purchased through the Sayre National Golf Clubhouse or their Hospitality Tent close to the stage. Food trucks and vendors will be located within walking distance from the music festival stage. Parking is free. Only those with a festival wristband will be allowed in the park from 4 pm to midquests night on Saturday.
Closing out this year’s festival is another fan favorite, “SUNDAY SINGING AND DINNER ON THE GROUND”. This year we are moving the event to Sunday at 7 pm in the City Park Pavilion. As in previous years, multi-talented individuals and groups will take the stage, providing some of the best Christian and Gospel music you’ll hear anywhere. Specific groups will be announced on the DBD Facebook page shortly. Bring your dinner and enjoy an evening of good food, fellowship, and fantastic music as we close out this year’s festival in classic style. Send comments or re for more information to Mireya Cotts through the Facebook page.
What a great way to end a great weekend in Sayre, Oklahoma! Updates and information on all of the activities for the 3-day event will be posted on the Festival’s Facebook page. See you at the festival!
