A 39-year-old Sayre is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond after being charged with assault on a police officer.
David Ferrill Alexander faces up to five years imprisonment if found guilty.
The investigation began at approximately 12:15 am on June 14 when the Sayre Police Department received a call from an individual reporting that a man was intoxicated and that the man was “a potential threat.” The caller said that he wanted the man removed from his property, the report states.
An SPD officer proceeded to the Sayre address and was allegedly met by Alexander, who reportedly had “slurred speech.”
The officer asked Alexander to remain in the yard as the officer spoke with the reporting party, the homeowner, but Alexander allegedly continued to attempt to approach the house.
The homeowner allegedly told the officer he called the SPD because the man had come to the home intoxicated in the past and that physical altercations had allegedly unfolded.
After speaking with the homeowner, who reportedly wanted Alexander to leave the home for “both their safety,” the officer found that Alexander did have a right to residency. For those reasons, the officer could not force him to leave.
However, the officer reportedly asked if Alexander had a safe place to go for the evening so the two could then talk the following day when he was sober.
The homeowner reportedly spoke with two of Alexander’s friends, who agreed to pick Alexander up.
While the SPD officer spoke with the homeowner, a Beckham County Sheriff’s Offi ce deputy was with Alexander in the yard.
When the SPD officer returned, Alexander allegedly began making “several aggressive statements.: Alexander reportedly struck the deputy with his right hand.
Alexander was then taken into custody. Great Plains Regional Medical Center medically cleared him.
