“The 2023 Beckham County 4-H Shotgun Shooting Sports wrapped up May 20 in El Reno at the Statewide 4-H spring contest with a BANG! We proudly took 23 kids,” said Monte Tucker.
Senior: Beckham County 4-H dominated the senior division with both Champion and Champion Runner-up teams! Senior team “the old dogs” consisting of Mason Tucker, Janessa Wilson, Addison Darling, and Reece Hightower shot a 140/150 to edge out their club-mates by only 2 targets, Senior team “the next generation,” Alex Orgain, Caleb Stone, Addison Darling and Hudson Dyer. Just out of a top 5 trophy was team “Beauties and the beasts” with a great score of 129/150, Tucker Walker, Paiton Quinn, Alexis Pletcher and Jordan Hull.
Intermediate: Team “wild bunch” including Carter Ripetoe, Zander VanGieson, Brady Vaught, and Jeremy Wilson landed a solid 4th place in a super tough field of intermediate teams. Team “rookies” had a great first trip to a state 4-H contest, Draykin Fannin, Layton Simpson and Matthew Platt.
Junior: Our “Young Guns” Junior team defended their Fall State Championship with an awesome score of 118/150 and retained the title “Champions!” This team to watch in the future is Reed Tucker, Katelynn Wood, Cooper Roberts and Iceyn Gloria.
Individuals earning trophies: Junior shooter Reed Tucker earned the title “Champion Junior” in a competitive shoot-off with a 43/50, squad-mates Cooper Roberts 38/50 was 4th and Katelynn Wood 37/50 was 5th juniors. Senior Reece Hightower came away with hard-fought 5th in a 4-way shoot-off with a 48/50.
