Twenty-five Elk City FFA members attended the state convention. During the convention, 6 sessions were held in the BOK Arena. At the beginning of each session, chapter members got to witness a talent show and listen to 3 contestants at a time. After the talent show, chapter members then watched their FFA state officers conduct opening ceremonies with a laser light show. After the opening ceremonies, members then got to listen to multiple speakers, one of which was Jane Herlong (winner of the 1979 Miss South Carolina pageant). Another speaker was state superintendent Ryan Walters. Also during most of the sessions members were able to listen to candidates interview for state office and during some of the interviews delegates from different chapters were able to vote on the candidates. The state ffa choir also performed at each session held. After all of the events during the sessions were done, the state FFA officers did their closing ceremonies, ending that session.
Between and during sessions, workshops were held for chapter members to attend and learn new things. Some of the different workshops members could attend were, Stick to your gut, How to lose a job in ten ways, meat judging 101, and Building your brand. The workshops were around an hour to an hour and a half long and offered members a chance to learn new leadership & career ideas. Also during the convention, an expo was held in the COX center. In the expo there were more than 125 exhibitors, an FFA Alumni silent auction, food court, and an agriscience fair. On the first night of the convention a concert was held in the BOK arena. There, members got to listen to singer William Clark Green.
At the last session chapter members and their families listened to the talent show finalists. Also the audience got to watch a daredevil do stunts on stage. At the last session, the convention finally gave away a Ford truck given by the Ford dealers of Oklahoma. Spiro was the chapter that won the truck. Elk City won it in 2016 so we were no longer eligible to win the truck. During the entire last session, seniors eligible to receive their State FFA degree sat on the ground level waiting for their degree. Elk City had 6 seniors that earned their degree. Those students were Jill Meador, Kiera Coslow, Campbell Jacobsma, Braxton Buchanan, Haylee Reed, and Kye Keyes.
