WHERE: Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation headquarters, 1801 N. Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City.
WHEN: 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
Rack Madness is a free public event held by the Wildlife Department each year after deer hunting seasons end. It allows Oklahoma big game hunters to gather and share stories about their hunting exploits, to bring their “racks” (deer or elk antlers, pronghorn horns, and bear skulls) to be scored by ODWC professionals, and to highlight Oklahoma’s remarkable deer and big game resources.
About 200 hunters are expected to pre-register to bring items for scoring, and many will have family members with them as well. Walk-ins are welcome, too. At least 30 ODWC personnel will be involved in scoring and operating the event.
Measuring harvested racks, horns or skulls is a common practice in the big game hunting community. Higher scores that meet qualifications are then entered into the Cy Curtis state record books for harvested game. There is always a chance that a new state-record deer, elk, pronghorn or bear could turn up at this event.
Media members are invited to visit ODWC during the event to produce TV spots, either recorded or live. There will be ODWC spokespersons on hand for on-camera interviews. Topics may include: Hunting is a time-honored outdoor tradition for Oklahoma families, with nearly 500,000 Oklahomans hold a hunting license.
Excellent condition of state’s big game resources today compared to nearly none less than 100 years ago.
How harvested game is scored for the record books.
