The Elk City Fire Department had the highest numbers of calls in one week that Chief Kyle Chervenka has ever seen.
Chervenka is a veteran of the crew with decades of experience.
“We had a hundred calls last week, the most I have ever seen,” he said.
Those calls included a camper fire on February 3.
“The resident was an older woman and we were able to get the three dogs out. It was an older camper, so really only the shell of it left,” Chervenka stated.
The ECFD also had a 120 acre fire on February 3.
On February 15, a house fire on Hayden in Elk City seemed to have been caused by something electrical, although it is still under investigation.
Two dogs were in the home, but died due to the fire.
The house was not a loss, but one room was.
Chervenka cautions people that space heaters can be a fire hazard.
“Definitely don’t have space heaters close to your furniture or anything else,” he advised.
Chervenka said road accidents have been minimal, but asks the public to be mindful.
