A 38-year-old Elk City man has been charged with exploiting of the elderly after allegedly taking $9,579.60 from a woman over 62. The investigation began on September 18, 2024 when Elk City Police first received notice from Adult Protective Services. The money had allegedly been missing for two years. Robert Wade Leyja had allegedly used the woman’s debit card from her bank without her permission.
Some of the purchases were reportedly through modo.com for “gaming coins.”
The alleged victim said this was without her consent and agreed to file charges.
