Elk City man charged with trafficking meth, destroying evidence

A 61-year-old Elk City man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $40,000 bond after being charged with trafficking methamphetamine and destroying evidence.

If convicted, Wilbert Lee Brewer, Jr., faces up to twenty years in prison.

The investigation began on December 10 at approximately 9:03 am when an Elk City Police Department officer noticed a vehicle with an alleged expired tag.

The officer turned on his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop.

During the stop, the officer reportedly observed that he saw what he “suspected to be methamphetamine in the driver’s seat and flaking off of Brewer’s pants.”

“Upon searching the vehicle, I found crystal chunks suspected of methamphetamine on the center console, driver’s seat, driver’s side floorboard, in an ashtray, and in-between the driver’s side seat and center console on the floor,” the reporting officer wrote.

A second officer reportedly found a small bag that was allegedly used to transport methamphetamine.

The officer noted that no alleged paraphernalia was reportedly found, which the officer noted would commonly indicate that a substance was for personal use.

The officer also alleged that he believed Brewer had been attempting to hide the alleged methamphetamine.

The suspected methamphetamine from item 1 reportedly weighed 20.4 grams.

The suspected liquid methamphetamine reportedly weighed 47.8 grams.

Brewer’s phone was also seized.
