The Elk City Elks are preparing for the 2024 basketball season with a senior- heavy roster that brings leadership and experience to the floor. Head coach Tyler Foale is optimistic about the team’s potential, noting that several athletes have the ability to create scoring opportunities. “We are a senior- heavy team that has good experience. We will have some good athletes that can create opportunities for our team,” Foale said. “We will also have some good young kids that are going to get some opportunities that will help us in the future.” The offense will run through senior guard Cole Buie, a left-handed player known for his ability to score and create shots for others. “Cole is an ultimate competitor and can single-handedly take over a game,” Foale said. He’s a good scorer who can take over a game when needed, but what makes him stand out is how well he sets up his teammates. Buie will be relied upon to lead the team on both ends of the floor, using his athleticism and court vision to make plays. Coach Foale also highlighted future star Graham Easttom, a talented underclassman expected to make an impact this season. “Graham is athletic, strong guard. He will be able to score and defend. Smart player that is extremely coachable,” Foale said. Graham is a strong guard who can score and defend. “He will be a leader for this program in the future and will continue to get better.”
On the defensive side, the Elks plan to focus on playing with intensity and making every possession tough for their opponents. Defense is going to be critical for Elk City this year. Staying aggressive and disciplined in their approach to set the tone early in games is their game plan. The team will lean on their experienced seniors to provide stability and leadership, but younger players like Easttom are also expected to contribute heavily. The goal for the Elks is to build chemistry between the veterans and younger athletes.
With a mix of experienced athletes and emerging talent, the Elks aim to improve on last season’s 7-19 record and lay the foundation for future success. This team has potential, and if the Elks keep working hard, they might have the chance to surprise people this season.
