A 43-year-old Yukon man is being held on a $2,500 bond in the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with third-degree burglary.
The investigation began at approximately 10:04 pm on November 12 when Elk City Police Department officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Oliver in regard to a male subject allegedly “looking into the window of the residence.”
Upon arrival at the scene, the reporting ECPD officer spoke with the homeowner who reportedly explained that his wife had seen a man looking into their living room.
The man was identified as Eric Shawn Rea. The male homeowner went outside and reportedly asked Rea if he needed assistance.
Rea allegedly stated that he was “looking for two women.”
The homeowner said that he noticed what appeared to be a pair of scissors in Rea’s hand that he “kept flailing about.”
The homeowner then reportedly asked Rea to leave before stepping back inside his home, locking the door and calling 911.
Two ECPD officers began to search the area.
The homeowner gave the police permission to push the door open to his storage shed and search any property.
During the search, the officers reportedly found mail that had been opened from a nearby residence, as well as a box of miscellaneous trash that the homeowner stated did not belong to him.
“We also found scissors in the driveway of the residence,” the officer wrote.
While some officers were searching outside the home, another ECPD officer sent notification that Rea had been located inside a vehicle.
The vehicle was registered to the homeowners who had made the initial call.
Officers learned that vehicle had reportedly been broken down for “quite some time.”
Rea reportedly appeared to be asleep in the passenger seat, according to the affidavit.
After taking Rea into custody, officers allegedly found a key to the car in his pocket.
“It should be noted that at our shift briefing, day shift officers had dealt with Rea in regard to being on private property multiple times. The officers informed us that Rea had grown more agitated each time. The officers felt that we would be requested to respond to more calls in regard to Rea,” the reporting ECPD officer wrote.
Rea was charged with third-degree burglary due to being inside the vehicle and possessing the key, which the reporting officer alleges that Rea intended to steal the property inside of.
Rea reportedly did not have permission to be inside the vehicle.
