Phoenix man charged with cocaine possession in Beckham County District Court

A 22-year-old Phoenix, Arizona, man is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center the Elk City Police Department allegedly found him with cocaine. The investigation began on November 1 at approximately 2:07 pm when the Elk City Police Department received a call about a “suspicious person” at a local convenience store located on the 100 block of Meadow Ridge Drive.

Upon arrival, the responding ECPD officer found the subject to be reportedly leaving the store in a silver car without a tag.

The vehicle turned north on Highway 6 and reportedly began to get on Interstate 40 at the 38-mile marker onramp.

The officer caught up with the silver car and activated his emergency lights.

The vehicle reportedly came to a stop in the middle of the on-ramp.

The officer asked the driver, identified as Jose Rigoberto Coc-Curruchich to pull his vehicle over on the shoulder of the on-ramp to prevent them from being hit by another vehicle.

The officer reported that he and Coc-Curruchich had a language barrier.

A second ECPD officer located an identification card for Coc-Curruchich from Guatemala and a clear plastic bag containing alleged cocaine.

A third ECPD officer who is fluent in Spanish arrived on scene to assist.

Coc-Curruchich allegedly admitted to possessing the alleged cocaine to that third officer.

The alleged cocaine field tested positive for cocaine and weighed .7 grams.

It was sent to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation for chemical testing and official weight.
