A 34-year-old Sayre man and a 38-year-old Sayre woman were released from the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with child neglect.
Jared Brewer and Ashley Flores both received $10,000 bonds.
The investigation began at approximately 12:45 pm on October 9 when the Oklahoma Department of Human Services contacted the Beckham County Sheriff ’s Office about a referral.
The report claimed that a minor child was “failing to thrive.”
The report also allegedly claimed that the parents of the child might not be feeding the child and locking the child in their room.
A forensic interview was reportedly conducted with the child in question by ODHS and BCSO.
The deputy reported seeing holes that indicated a “locking mechanism” had been used on the right side of the door.
Brewer reportedly stated a dog had been locked in there prior.
The child reportedly said they are allergic to cheese, milk, and chocolate, and eats corn dogs when those things are for dinner.
However, the child also reportedly said they only get one corn dog and remain hungry.
The deputy noted that the refrigerator, two freezers, and a pantry have food.
The report described the child with “severe protein-calorie malnutrition due to neglect as well as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and disruptive mood dysregulation disorder.”
The child stated that their mother calls them “retard,” according to the report.
According to records obtained from Red Rock, the child allegedly lost 26 pounds over the summer.
The deputy also noted that the mother, Flores, was allegedly inconsistent on what the child could eat.
The child was hospitalized in order to restart adequate feeding.
At school, the child had allegedly been seen sneaking into the kitchen area to take food.
A doctor also allegedly told the mother in August that she was concerned about the child’s “poor weight, height, and his development,” and requested a specialist referral.
However, Flores reportedly declined.
