A 52-year-old Elk City man is being held on a $10,000 bond in the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with second-degree burglary.
The investigation began at approximately 6:30 am on October 23 when the Elk City Police Department was dispatched to the Dollar General on the 100 block of North Main Street.
A brick had reportedly been thrown through the window earlier in the morning.
The officer arrived on scene to speak with a Dollar General employee, who reportedly told the officer that she and another employee were in the back part of the store when someone had allegedly thrown a brick through one of the front windows of the store.
She shared that, based on the motion-activated cameras, this occurred something around 4 am.
The camera was activated, but not pointed in the right direction to capture who had thrown the brick.
The employee said she wasn’t sure if anything was taken from the store.
At approximately 9:07 am, the officer visited a nearby store and was able to get footage that reportedly showed a white male with a black bike, a dark-colored hoodie, and red and black beenie cap walking towards that Dollar General just before the brick was thrown, and then running in the opposite direction.
The man appeared to be carrying “one or two cardboard boxes,” according to the report.
The male in the video was reportedly known to the officer as Darin Gentry.
At approximately 5:37 pm, a second Elk City officer found Gentry near West 8th Street and South Randall Avenue.
That officer detained Gentry, informed him of his Miranda rights, and interviewed him with the assistance of other officer.
Gentry allegedly admitted to being the subject in the video during the interview.
Gentry reportedly told the officers that he stays behind the OYO hotel.
Officers reportedly went to the location and allegedly found the hoodie and beanie cap seen in the video.
The items found there that allegedly appeared to be from the Dollar General were miscellaneous food items and four cell phones.
