Extreme Holiday Showdown debuts Nov. 16 at Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 17, 2024) – Remington Park’s Thoroughbred Season takes a festive turn when the racetrack’s Extreme Holiday Showdown takes place Saturday, Nov. 16, with entertainment and activities starting at 5 p.m.

Matt Vance, Remington Park executive vice president, said the event is a new partnership with the Thoroughbred Racing Association of Oklahoma designed to create an immersive and fun family-friendly experience like Extreme Racing held each spring during the Quarter Horse Season.

“The Holiday Showdown event aims to transform the night of racing into merriment with unique holiday experiences like penguin encounters and holiday character racing between typical live horse racing,” Vance said. “We’re grateful to our industry partners at TRAO who have embraced this event and share the same vision to create a memorable event that also gives back to our community.”

During the showdown, Remington Park will be the only place in Oklahoma City where guests can pet and take photos with live penguins. Other live animal interactions include Frankie the Llama, Shelley the Tortoise and Quilliam the Christmas Porcupine. Guests have additional photo opportunities with the Express Christmas Clydesdales and live reindeer with a vintage sleigh.

“The debut of Extreme Holiday Showdown creates the opportunity to introduce new people to the sport of Thoroughbred racing and its rich history in Oklahoma,” said Danielle Barber, TRAO executive director. “We hope families will kick off their holiday season with this unique event as they experience the speed and endurance of these Thoroughbred athletes.”

The extreme racing events between live Thoroughbred racing include a race featuring adoptable dogs, a Christmas race, a stick horse race, an all-holiday race and the grand finale – the Showdown – which features winners from the Christmas and all-holiday races.

Visitors also can partake of a variety of holiday treats in booths throughout the park, visit booths from Remington Park Charities and purchase holiday gifts from local vendors at the Merry Market.

There is no entry fee at Remington Park, and the Extreme Holiday Showdown is free and open to the public. Visit RemingtonPark. com for more information about Extreme Holiday Showdown.
