Elk City School Board holds monthly October meeting
The biggest development in the regularly scheduled Elk City Board of Education meeting, which was held at 6 pm on October 7, was the board’s approval of a resolution calling for a Board of Education Primary Election for Seat 5.
The seat is currently held by Rodney Cloud.
The seat is a five-year term. The election will be held on February 11, 2025, if three or more candidates file for this position.
However, if only two candidates file for the position or if no candidate in the April 11 primary wins more than 50% of the vote, the election will be April 1, 2025.
These elections will both be held from 7 am to 7 pm on their respective days for Elk City voters.
The filing period for interested candidates is Monday, December 2 to Wednesday December 4.
The board voted unanimously to approve this measure.
The meeting was fast with a small agenda.
However, the board did address another important item, addressing Transfer Capacity Limits for the Elk City Public Schools.
Elk City Superintendent Mike Sparks did say that spots in only two classes were close to capacity, but he has noted multiple times throughout the year that a school having an abundance of students seeking their education is a “good problem to have.”
In Sparks’ view, that is an indicator that Elk City is a place that parents would want their children to attend.
The board also approved the employment of bus driver Bobby Ivins and paraprofessional Deanna Modesto.
