Ackley Park upgrades continue.
Demolition of the park’s 66-year-old miniature golf course is finished, making way for a new course that will be built at the same location.
The new course will be paid for with revenue generated from CAPPS funds, the onecent sales tax that Elk City voters approved continuing in 2019 for community projects.
CAPPS revenue funded construction of the Arrowhead Center in Ackley Park West, which was completed in 2022, and Thunderbird Bay, the new Ackley Park aquatic center, in 2023.
The new mini-golf course is scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend.
City employee John Moorhead and Ackley Park caretaker Herman Ratzlaff designed and built Ackley Park’s original miniature golf course, which opened in early July 1958.
