Sayre falls to Hooker

The Sayre Eagle football team hosted the Hooker Bulldogs at Eagle Field last Friday evening where they were defeated by the score of 50 to 20. Hooker brought a strong group of players who put 50 points on the scoreboard in the first half of play.

The Eagles scored 8 points in the third quarter and 12 in the final stanza to give the final score.

Hooker received the opening kickoff and showed the strength of their team when they marched 73 yards in five plays to put the first of seven touchdowns on the scoreboard in the first half of play.

The TD was a 62 yard run by Justin Palacios and after Trace Duncan toed the PAT the score read 7 - 0 with 10:00 minutes left in the quarter. The tone of the game became set when on the ensuing kickoff the Bulldogs elected to attempt an onside kick which was successful when Gannon Hill made the recovery of the ball at the 49 yard line. Seven plays later Hooker scored again after they covered the 49 yards in 7 plays with the final play an 8 yard pass from QB Kleat Martens to Peyton Parker.

The PAT failed and the score read 13-0 with 7:04 left in the first quarter. Aiden Ball returned the ensuing kickoff 15 yards to the Eagle 43. But after 3 plays resulted in a loss of 4 yards Sayre was forced to punt. The Eagles hard luck continued when the punt was only 12 yards to the Hooker 49 yard line. The Bulldogs continued their control of the offense when they scored their third TD in five plays with the touchdown a 4 yard run by Peyton Parker.

QB Martens ran across the PAT to up the score to 21- 0 with 2:54 left in the first quarter.

Following the kickoff the Eagles again could not get a drive started and after 3 plays punted 17 yards to the Bulldog 38. On first down of Hookers fourth possession Martens threw a deep pass that was caught by Kelan Robinson who skipped into the end zone for a 62 yard touchdown. The same pair put on the board the2 point conversion to give a score of 29 - 0 with 0:35 left in the first quarter.

After the ensuing kickoff Sayre set up their next possession at the Eagle 32. Sayre ran one play of three yards to end the first quarter. On second play of the second quarter a fumble occurred and Nate Hildalgo scooped it up for Hooker and raced 38 yards to the end zone. Aydan Woolridge ran for the PAT to give Hooker a 37 to 0 lead with 11:04 left in the third quarter. After the ensuing kickoff the ball traveled out of bounds to give the Eagles an offensive setup at their own 35.

With QB Camden Plummer injured Dustin McSorley took control of tthe Eagle offense. McSorley ran the ball 4 straight times for 2 first downs and 30 yards to the Hooker 35. On the next play a center snap went awry with Mc-Sorley recovering the ball for a 12 yard loss back at the 47. After a third down lost one yard the Eagles were forced to punt. But the punt was blocked by Nate Hildalgo who also recovered the ball to give Hooker an offensive setup at the 50 yard line.

The bulldogs ran 4 plays with the final play a 30 yard run by Martens and after Duncan booted the PAT the score read 44 to 0 with 6:11 left in the second quarter.

After the ensuing kickoff the Eagles could not get their motor started and were forced to punt after 3 plays netted only one yard. Jaden Mosser booted a 36 yard punt that put the ball at the Hooker 23.

The Bulldogs offense did not slow down as they covered the 77 yards in only 2 plays. After the first netted 40 yards to the Sayre 37, the final distance to the end zone was a pass of 37 yards from Martens to Robinson. A kick for the PAT failed and the score was 50 to 0. Sayre had their biggest play before the quarter ended on a 41 yard pass from McSorley to Brayden Mosburg to the Hooker 21. But the next six plays could not get the Eagles into the end zone and the first half ended with Hooker holding a 50 - 0 lead. Mosser returned the third quarter kickoff 18 yards to the Eagle 40.

Zane Allen ripped off 31 yards on first down to the Hooker 29. Three plays later Mosser outran the Bulldog secondary for a 20 yard TD. Allen ran across the PAT and the score was 50 to 8 with 7:35 left in the third quarter. After the ensuing kickoff the Eagle defense gave up one first down but shut the Bulldogs down after 4 plays netted only 2 yards. Sayre took over at the Hooker 47 and cranked out a 47 yard touchdown in nine plays with the ninth play a one yard TD run by Allen. The PAT failed and the score now read 50 to 14 with 10:20 left in the fourth quarter.

Following the ensuing kickoff Hooker set up their offensed at their own 28. Three plays netted only 2 yards and on the fourth down a pass was intercepted by Hunter Hanrahan and returned 35 yards to the Bulldog 18. On first down Zane Allen covered the distance of 18 yards to paydirt. The PAT failed and the game ended with Hooker winning 50 to 20.
