A 74-year-old Elk City man has been released from the Beckham County Detention Center after being charged with driving under the influence, second offense within 10 years, and resisting arrest.
The investigation began at approximately 6:47 pm on September 21 when an Elk City Police Department officer heard that there was a traffic accident on East Third Street and Eastern Avenue in Elk City. A truck had reportedly slid into a creek south of the intersection.
When the officer arrived to help direct traffic, a witness reportedly approached him and stated that the pickup involved in the accident had allegedly come from a nearby liquor store and threw a liquor bottle onto his property. The witness reportedly claimed that the pickup had been doing this “for some time” and that he had multiple videos of the driver throwing liquor bottles onto the ground.
The man then reportedly showed the officer video from the alleged incident from that day, September 21, which had reportedly occurred at 6:44 pm.
The man said that he followed the pickup to confront the driver, but that the driver “wiped” out on his own. The officer then spoke to a second ECPD officer on the scene. He then spoke to the driver, who was identified as Chick Arthur Little.
The officer alleged that Little was “unsteady on his feet, had glassy eyes, and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person.”
Little allegedly denied having drank alcohol, but also was reportedly unwilling to perform sobriety tests. At that time, the officer informed Little that he was under arrest.
The officer alleged that Little “declared that I would not place him under arrest and moved his shoulder away from my grip.”
The officer was assisted by a second officer. They placed Little under arrest.
