The Elk City Fire Department and the Oklahoma Natural Gas have long worked together to ensure that citizens can quickly and safely be removed from harm’s way in the event of a gas leak.
Although gas leaks are rare, both aim to work in unison if they arise.
The efficiency was seen on Tuesday evening when a gas leak occurred in the area of 20th Street and Van Buren in Elk City.
The gas leak was described as “large.” The ECFD worked quickly to begin evacuations.
Local law enforcement also helped in closing the roads.
A large gas line had reportedly been cut. ONG arrived at approximately 5:15 pm. By 7:25 pm, the line was repaired and citizens were allowed to return to their homes. The roads were also reopened.
