After 40 years in town, a beloved sawbones moved closer to the sunrise.
Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Y.C. Ahn came to the United States in 1975.
“We moved to Elk City in 1983 after he completed his training in New York,” said his daughter Gina Pierce.
Dr. Ahn practiced in Elk City until officially retiring from orthopedics in 2017.
“He continued to volunteer with the local hospice organization and free clinic after retiring,” Pierce said.
Dr. Ahn also returned to school and became a certified acupuncturist. He enjoyed this until his own health needs intervened.
Due to those needs, Dr. Ahn recently relocated to Oklahoma City.
Below is a letter from the Ahn family.
“To the People of Elk City: “On behalf of our father, Dr. Ahn, we would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful people of Elk City and the town of Elk City for providing a home and community for our family for the past four decades.
“Additionally, many thanks to the providers and staff at Great Plains Regional Medical Center where our father was able to fulfill his dream of working as an orthopedic surgeon.
“Due to health issues, we have moved Dad to Oklahoma City to be closer to us.
“Words cannot express how grateful we are for each and every one of you for supporting and looking out for our father.
“With love, “The Ahn Family”
