A 46-year-old Elk City woman has been charged with child kidnapping.
The felony charge was filed against Shannon Lee Mahan in the Beckham County District Court on September 12. Shannon Lee Mahan has been charged with one count of child kidnapping. The investigation began at approximately 3:40 pm on September 5 when an assistant with the Beckham County District Attorney’s Office brought a document signed by District Judge Michelle Kirby Roper requesting the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office deputies takes custody of a 7-year-old child from Mahan.
“Due to Mahan having absconded, DHS requested for the trial reunification to be terminated due to safety and welfare concerns,” the investigator wrote.
Mahan had rules set by the court for reunification, but reportedly did not comply with those orders.
When BCSO deputies went to the address listed as Mahan’s home, they allegedly learned that Mahan had left with the child.
Deputies were able to ping Mayan’s phone and found that she had been on I-40.
The child was registered to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The location on Mahan’s phone eventually led to Oregon.
The Oregon State Police were able to locate Mahan and the child.
The two had reportedly been in a camper in Klamath County, Oregon.
An outstanding warrant does not appear to be active for Mahan, but DHS has been notified that the child was located and it appears that Mahan was taken into custody there.
