ECPS Always Growing Volume 1

Dear families and students of Elk City Public Schools, Prior to becoming a school administrator I spent fifteen years as a U.S. History teacher. I tried to impress on my students the importance of understanding the past, for without knowing the past, it is impossible to determine progress.

It is with that thought in mind, I want to share the academic success earned by Elk City students and teachers. For three consecutive years, our students and teachers have achieved double digit growth and outperformed the state average, as measured by the Oklahoma State Testing Program assessing the Oklahoma Academic Standards that were implemented in 2018.

In this volume number 1, I want to provide to you our results for English Language Arts from the 20232024 school year.

This past school year, Elk City third grade students achieved the highest marks ever for ECPS third grade students. Fourth grade students demonstrated a 22% growth gain and earned the highest performance mark ever recorded. Fifth grade students also recorded all time highs. Sixth grade students achieved a 29% growth gain and also recorded the highest marks ever. Seventh grade students demonstrated a 14% growth gain while also earning the highest marks ever. Eighth grade students achieved a 22% growth gain and highest marks ever, while our high school students also earned a 13% growth gain.

Please join me in congratulating our students, your children, and our ECPS staff for what they achieved.

Schools serve so many purposes for a community, Fine Arts, Athletics, Agriculture, Job Skills, and Academics. When schools strive to encompass the success of all programs, schools create possibilities and opportunities. Opportunities to ensure that all children receive a first class education that opens doors and fulfills dreams.

At Elk City Public Schools, Always Growing, Just Means More!

Respectfully, Mike Sparks, Superintendent The Brown & White, committed to - Always Growing
