New charges filed against Erick man

New felony charges have been filed against a 24-year-old Erick man awho has already been detained at the Beckham County Detention Center while awaiting trial on other charges. Colby Ray Speed has now been charged additionally with preventing a witness from giving testimony, violating the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act and violation of the Security of Communications Act.

The new charges were filed in the Beckham County District Court on August 7.

The investigation began on July 12 when an Elk City Police Department detective was contacted by the Beckham County District Attorney’s Office with information about jail phone calls.

The detective then reportedly began listening to Speed’s jail phone calls and allegedly discovered “some calls that were criminal in nature.”

In a call made on June 26, the detective stated that Speed “places himself associated with the mob (Irish).”

Through the course of listening to the calls, the detective alleged that Speed tried to arrange for others to assault his sister’s boyfriend.

The detective also alleges that Speed violated computer laws by “setting up narcotic distribution of a schedule III narcotic that being Suboxone or also known as Buprenorphine.

Speed’s combined bond is now $ 600,000.
