Erick woman charged with child neglect

A 42-year-old Erick woman is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $2,000 bond after being charged with a felony count of child neglect and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance. The investigation began on August 11th when the Beckham County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting alleged drugs in a home with children.

Deputies responded to the call and found two minor children.

Deputies were also reportedly able to find .5 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

The reporting deputy notified the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and spoke to the adults responsible for the home, who was identified as Michelle Lee Pledger.

At the time, Pledger reportedly did not want to come to the front door to speak to the deputy and the DHS case worker.

Eventually, Pledger reportedly came outside and sat on the porch steps.

The reporting deputy requested an arrest warrant for Pledger at the time.

The warrant was issued in Beckham County District Court on August 14th.
