Lawsuits filed against popular local Facebook page over alleged defamation

Social media has become increasingly part of how people communicate in 2024.

Locally, one Facebook page in particular called “Elk City Rants and Raves,” garners significant attention.

The jest is local residents can visit the page and post either rants or raves.

Sometimes users utilize the page to praise a local business.

Other times, they utilize it to criticize a local business.

Last week, two lawsuits were filed against the “owners,” or creators and moderators, of the page for alleged defamation.

The first lawsuit was filed on August 6 by local business owner Carolyn Padron.

In it, she is suing the “owners” of the Elk City Rants and Raves Facebook page.

They are identified as Eric Sons and Whitney Sons.

Also being sued are John Doe and Jane Doe.

In the lawsuit, Padron is seeking $75,000 in damages after she says she and her business, Kind Properties, were defamed on the Facebook page.

The second lawsuit was filed on August 8 by Jeffrey and Michaela Roundtree.

They are also seeking $75,000 in damages after they say they, too, were defamed on the page.
