Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry warns that dangerous Asian longhorned tick found in Oklahoma

ODAFF has received confirmation of the first case of the Asian longhorned tick in Oklahoma. The tick was detected in Mayes County.

Oklahoma is the 20th state to confirm the tick’s presence since it was first discovered in New Jersey in 2017.

In large numbers the Asian longhorned tick may cause severe anemia to the animals it infests. The ticks can carry both human and animal diseases.

ODAFF will be conducting an epidemiological investigation to find how the ticks arrived in Oklahoma and to determine if it is present on other premises. We encourage all livestock owners to closely monitor their livestock.
