Couple stopped on I-40 charged with marijuana distribution

Since medical marijuana became legal in Oklahoma, marijuana distribution charges have greatly reduced. Today, methamphetamine and fentanyl make up the bulk of those types of charges. However, a recent filing by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol against a couple traveling I-40 illustrates that law enforcement still faces marijuana distribution as well.

The investigation began on July 22 at approximately 6:48 pm when an OHP trooper was near the 10-mile marker when a California vehicle reportedly began traveling too closely to another vehicle.

The trooper found the driver to be Samantha Nicole Tirado.

The trooper reported observing signs of nervousness.

The trooper learned that Tirado’s license was suspended and could allegedly detect the odor of marijuana.

The passenger was identified as Shannon Darryl Anthony Thomas.

THOMAS

During a probable cause search, the trooper reportedly found .6 ounces of marijuana along with used blunts.

In a black suitcase, the trooper allegedly found a plastic bag with .5 ounces of marijuana and three vacuum- sealed plastic bags containing marijuana.

Each bag reportedly weighed approximately one pound each.

Inside a tire rim, the trooper allegedly found eleven more bundles of marijuana, each reportedly weighing one pound each.

The suspects were held on a $30,000 bond each, but have since been released.
