Community shows up for retired teacher’s cancer benefit

For thirty-four years, Debbie Sisemore was among the most beloved school teachers that Elk City had to offer.

That was clear on Sunday night as former students and area citizens flooded into the Thirsty Frog for a benefit to help Sisemore financially as she undertakes chemotherapy in her battle against stage 3 cancer.

Jessie Osborn, who performed guitar, state that Sisemore had been like a free counselor to many. He was happy to play to help the former drama teacher.

He was followed by Dani Carson.

The benefit, which included a raffle and silent auction, was a success. It raised over $7,000.

A second benefit will be held for Sisemore at the Blockhouse on August 10. That will also feature live music, a silent auction, and a pool tournament.
