Dessert Delivery: Meals on Wheels Recipients Receive Girl Scout Cookies

OKLAHOMA CITY, July 8, 2024 – Meals on Wheels recipients are getting an extra sweet treat today thanks to a partnership between OG&E and Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma.

OG&E, Oklahoma’s largest electric utility company, recently purchased 1,200 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies from Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma to support the nonprofi t. The company donated the cookies to the Meals on Wheels Oklahoma City – a nonprofit that is the largest provider of charitable, nutritious meals to the ill, disabled and senior residents in the Oklahoma City metro.

“Community support is built into OG&E’s culture, so it’s only fitting the company decided to support our leadership programming for girls though a substantial cookie purchase,” said Janienne Bella, CEO of Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma. “Their generous decision to donate these cookies to Meals on Wheels exemplifies true community spirit. Thanks to OG&E, many of our community’s most vulnerable citizens will enjoy Girl Scout Cookies with their regular meal deliveries from Meals on Wheels. In return, local Girl Scouts will have more leadership programming opportunities. It’s a mutually beneficial - and truly sweet - collaboration.”

The cookies were delivered by OG&E volunteers this morning as part of their regular monthly Meals on Wheels deliveries in Oklahoma City. This summer, OG&E employees served or delivered more than 1,500 meals to senior living community residents and homebound seniors.

“OG&E and Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma’s long standing partnership is a sweet success. We are delighted to collaborate with local community partners to tackle food and hunger challenges facing older adults,” said OG&E Manager of Community Outreach and Engagement, Kelli Hayward Walsh. “Beyond supporting the elderly, this donation allows us to invest in our youth. We are dedicated to providing resources that enhance lives and supporting both children and seniors in our state.”
