Elk City Public School has enrollment at 2,000

Board holds monthly meeting

The Elk City School Board held their regularly scheduled meeting at the Elk City Board of Education at 6 pm on July 8.

After approving last month’s minutes, the board discussed and approved the Extra Pay Schedule for the 2024-25 school year.

The board also approved the capacity limits, which addresses allowing student transfers at each site and grade level.

Superintendent Mike Sparks said that enrollment is currently at approximately 2,000 students, which is similar to last year.

However, Sparks also said that he expects enrollment could rise to 2,100 to 2,150.

Should this happen, which Sparks said is likely, he said that he believes Elk City Public Schools can easily absorb and educate the additional students because EPS is fully staffed.

Sparks noted, as he has in the past, that many Oklahoma districts have struggled to be fully staffed.

The board voted to approve the handbooks for the elementary, secondary, and Virtual Elk schools.

The board voted to approve math and science courses taught at the Western Technology Center for the 2024-25 school year.

The board voted to hire Sara Allen as a school language pathologist and Kassi Schones as Lead Library Teaching Assistant.

The meeting was approximately 30 minutes long.
