Elk City teenager dies in Roger Mills County vehicle collision

A 17-year-old Elk City male was pronounced dead following a vehicle collision two miles east of Strong City in Roger Mills County.

A 17-year-old Elk City male was pronounced dead following a vehicle collision two miles east of Strong City in Roger Mills County.

The fatality collision occurred at approximately 6:53 pm on June 28 on Highway 33 at N 1930 Road.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol withheld the name of the 17-year-old. However, Canute Public Schools has confirmed that the victim was a Canute student, Kelton Milburn.

Milburn was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by the Roger Mills County EMS.

The other vehicle was driven by 67-year-old Cheyenne resident Charolet Lucas.

Lucas was transported by Air Evacuation to OU Medical Center and was admitted in stable condition with head injuries.

The collision reportedly occurred due to the juvenile driver failing to yield.

The OHP was assisted by the Roger Mills County Sheriff’s Office, Roger Mills County EMS, Strong City Fire Department, and Air Evac.

Canute Public Schools wrote on its Facebook page, “We would like to lift up the family of Canute High School student Kelton Milburn in heartfelt prayer. Kelton lost his life in a vehicle accident yesterday. A crisis team has been organized for students needing assistance in managing through this difficult time. The crisis team will be available Monday from 9 until 12 in the Canute school lunch room.”

A fund has been created to assist the family of Kelton Milburn pay for his funeral.
