A 23-year-old Elk City woman is being held in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond after being charged with domestic assault and battery by strangulation and kidnapping.

Jada Lynn Highwalker faces up to 3 years in prison if convicted of strangulation and up to 20 years in prison if convicted of kidnapping.

The investigation began at approximately 6:11 am on May 21 when the Elk City Police Department dispatch informed an officer of a female subject who allegedly had gotten into a physical fight.

The subject was reportedly at Love’s Country store on Highway 66 near Interstate 40.

The reporting party was reportedly distraught and crying.

The altercation between the two women allegedly lasted over two hours at a nearby motel where the two women were reportedly staying.

The alleged victim reportedly stated that Highwalker had been consuming alcohol and became agitated.

The alleged victim then stated that Highwalker became violent by choking her.

The alleged victim also admitted to striking Highwalker in the face but claimed she did so in self-defense.

The officer reportedly observed the alleged victim’s physical appearance for injuries and noted “bruising and an open wound in the form of a scratch on the left side of her neck.”

The officer added, “I observed a slight redness to the left side of her cheek. I observed later a bruise on the palm of her right hand. I took pictures and asked (omitted) to have her local police department take pictures the next day and send them to me. (Omitted) stated that Highwalker was very sweet until she started to drink tonight and became physical.”

The officer asked the alleged victim if Highwalker had prevented her from leaving the motel room when she attempted to leave.

The alleged victim reportedly stated that Highwalker had prevented her from leaving when she attempted to remove herself from the situation.

The alleged victim stated that Highwalker had not become physically violent until that point.

The alleged victim claimed this included Highwalker allegedly choking her with one hand while shoving her into the wall.

When officers found Highwalker, Highwalker reportedly claimed that the alleged victim had slapped her in the face approximately three to four times.

The officer noted redness on Highwalker’s cheek.
