The Elk City Motorsports Park took a weekend off to prepare for next weekend’s major event — the ASCS Sooner Region Sprint Cars.

Co-owners Robb Fauver and Joe McConnell are eager to present local fans with racing’s fastest cars.

“We want to bring these nationally recognized series ASCS Sprint Cars series to Elk City,” Fauver exclaimed. “This is a really big deal for a small track. We are talking speeds up to 130 miles per hour.”

Additionally, the park will have its regular weekly divisions of mods, factory stocks, and tuners.

“The pit gates will open at 3 pm, and the grandstands will open at 5 pm,” Fauver advised. “The racing will kick off at 7 pm.

Adult tickets are $15. Youth, senior citizens, and active and retired military tickets are $15.

“Kids under 8 are free,” Fauver said. “And we do love having our stands full of excited kids.”

Fauver estimated that the race will have an excess of 20 cars.

With all other races combined, he excepts between 75-80 cars.

“We are hoping to be starting our last races around 10:30 pm to be finished by 11,” Fauver said. “But we do have to account for unpredictable weather or wrecks. It will be several hours of the best racing you can see live.”

Fauver and his business partner McConnell are relocating to Elk City to run this track. Fauver is moving from California and McConnell from Tennessee.

“We did our first race last July 4 and did half a season,” Fauver stated. “This is something that I was trying to do in California, but you need to own the track. We do driver’s lessons. We found that in this beautiful track in Elk City. You can come out and rent a stock car to drive around ten laps. We have all kinds of packages — those who just want a day’s lessons and those who want to get lessons because they are competing. I have traveled all over the world as a professional mechanic and helped put together racing teams. This has been in places like Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and throughout our country. I love every part of racing, but I would say my favorite is teaching.”

Fauver advised fans to follow their Facebook.

“We have links there to help you get lessons or to see our rules if you want to start racing out here,” Fauver said. “Joe and I were looking for a place centrally located in the country with a good population of race fans. Elk City has been that. We are both so excited to be here.”
