The Elk City High School boys’ tennis team showed out at state.
All six of the ECHS tennis players finished in the top eight at the recent 4A State Tennis Tournament at the OKC Tennis Center.
These strong finishes secured 3rd Place for the ECHS boys’ team collectively.
Junior Max Murry finished the season at 8th in the state in the 1 singles division.
Senior Jackson Ivester won 4th Place in 2 singles.
Sophomore Quinn Brewer and his doubles partner, junior Kyler Welch, won 3rd Place in 1 doubles.
Freshman Spence Brewer and his doubles partner, sophomore Rafe Coslow, were State Runners-Up in 2 doubles.
Team standings are determined by a scoring system for singles and doubles finishes.
Because of the boys’ excellent play, ECHS nearly brought home the silver.
“Only two points separated us and State Runner-Up, Metro Christian,” said Head Coach Gina Curtis.
“They put in the hard work and dedication it takes to be a top competitor, and this year it paid off in spades,” Curtis said. “They placed 3rd in one tournament, 1st in eight tournaments, were the Regional Champions, and placed 3rd at State [missing 2nd] by two points!”
The ECHS boys’ tennis team finished as State Runner-Up in 2022.
