Last Wednesday morning, fans of Big Elk Baseball lined the streets to town to send the boys off to the 4A Oklahoma High School Baseball State Tournament.

The following afternoon, Elk City High School head coach Jay McClure and crew faced off against the Chickasha Chicks.

“The whole bracket is tough,” acknowledged McClure. “I feel good about our odds, but every team going is worthy of being there. Chickasha beat us earlier in the year, so we know we have our work cut out for us.”

The Big Elks played a hard-fought game against the Chicks, but lost a nail-biter, 3-2.

Ultimately, it came down to the walk-off in the eighth inning outside of regulation play that gave Chickasha the 3-2 victory.

ECHS started Cameron Carlisle on the pitching mound. He and pitcher Kash Mayfield struck out nineteen batters.

Rylee Boyd’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning helped the Elks take a 2-1 lead.

Cole Buie, Wyatt McConnell, Jaxon McArthur, Boyd, Mayfield, and McArthur all made hits.
