Texas man charged with felony DUI after being arrested driving semi truck on I-40

The Beckham County Record rarely reports upon driving under the influence arrests.

The Beckham County Record rarely reports upon driving under the influence arrests.

However, most DUI arrests in Beckham County do not involve semi-trucks.

That was not the case for one Oklahoma Highway Patrolman on April 25 when he arrested a 57-year-old Texas man for second and subsequent DUI, transporting an open container, and making an improper turn.

The investigation began at approximately 2:47 p.m. The OHP trooper reportedly observed a white Freightliner semi-truck reportedly making a turn onto US Highway 283 that allegedly crossed over the inside lane, the outside lane, and going partially onto the shoulder.

The trooper activated his emergency lights to begin a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as Victor Manuel Segura by his valid Texas driver’s license.

The trooper allegedly noticed that, after getting into the trooper’s patrol unit, Segura reportedly kept the passenger’s side door opened and stayed “as far over away from me as he could be.”

The trooper allegedly smelled a “strong odor of alcohol coming from Segura’s person.”

Segura allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol the previous night, but reportedly amended his statement to say that he had one drink an hour prior.

The trooper listed several indicators of impairment for Segura.

Segura reportedly refused to take the state’s test to measure alcohol concentration.
