The organizers and volunteers at the the Beckham County Community Baby Shower were pleased with the event’s success in providing resources to area families.
Miranda Cummings, nursing director for Great Plains Regional Medical Center’s Women’s Center, said, “We had a great turnout, and were able to help many families. Several medical providers and other resources were there, so there was a wide array of things provided. The Women’s Center also provided education for infant health on issues like safe sleeping for a baby.”
The event was held on Friday, April 26, from 1-4 pm at the Western Technology Center’s Elk City campus.
Resources and door prizes were available to pregnant mothers and families with young children aged 0-5 years old.
Some of the participating groups were Great Plains Regional Medical Center, the Oklahoma Health Department, Beckham County Health Department, Heart to Heart Pregnancy Care Center, Embrace Grace, Elk City Head Start, Elk City Carnegie Library, and Dr. Bintz and Ellis Vision Source.
Over sixty families were served with more than $1,500 in gifts distributed to families in need.
The hosts were Liberty McArthur with Western Oklahoma Family Care Center, Alecia Malson and Michelle Cox with the Oklahoma State Department of Health, and Jennifer Hagerman with SERVE Society and Embrace Grace.
“Liberty does a wonderful job organizing events just like this one, as do all the hosts. Beckham County is fortunate to have Western Oklahoma Family Care Center and the other involved groups who came together to put this on. The Women’s Center at GRPMC is honored to have been included to help with maternal and infant health,” Cummings added.
