A 31-year-old Elk City man is being held on a $30,000 bond after being charged with second and subsequent domestic abuse.
The investigation began at approximately 6:44 pm on April 4 after the Elk City Police Department dispatchers sent an ECPD officer to Atwood’s on the 2900 block of South Main Street in Elk City. The ECPD had received a call from a female subject wanting to speak with an officer about a fight she had reportedly had with James Robert White.
When the officer arrived at Atwood’s, he could see a female subject waving him down while reportedly holding her right eye.
The officer spoke with the woman outside of the store.
Regarding her eye, the offi cer wrote, “It was completely swelled shut and appeared to be bleeding.”
The woman reportedly stated that she and White had been arguing in their hotel room when White allegedly “threw what she thought was a socket at her eye and struck her in the face.”
This alleged assault reportedly occurred approximately an hour prior.
While speaking with the alleged victim, White reportedly came from the parking lot and approached the officer and the woman.
The officer stopped White. White allegedly said they had a “little argument, and the door was open, and something hit her in the eye.”
“White then began to yell towards (omitted). He then tried to walk past me to approach her. I grabbed White by the arm and stopped him. White told me multiple times not to touch him and began yelling. I placed him in hand restraints and escorted him to my patrol car. While escorting him to my patrol car, he yelled at (omitted) multiple times,” the officer wrote.
“Once at my car, White stated that he was gathering tools, the door to the hotel room was open, and (omitted) started screaming that something hit her in the eye,” the officer added.
As the reporting officer placed White in his patrol car, a second ECPD officer waited for EMS to arrive to treat the woman.
The woman was then escorted to Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
“While in the book-in process, White began to cry periodically and stated that he hadn’t used methamphetamine in two days,” the officer stated.
After the alleged victim was treated at GPRMC, the officer reportedly helped her gather her belongings from the couple’s hotel room and drove her to the women’s shelter in Clinton.
On April 5, the officer interviewed White at the ECPD.
“I read White the Miranda warning, and he elected to sign the Miranda waiver. Immediately, White explained the situation to me, stating that he had lied to me the previous day. He stated that he and (omitted) were arguing and that he pretended to throw a socket at her because it normally would make her stop. White stated that the socket slipped out of his hand, striking (omitted) in the eye,” the officer wrote.
White was also charged with malicious injury to property under $1,000.
He is due back in Beckham County District Court on May 8.
