Donald Hugh Smith was born November 7th, 1951 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Helen Floice (Nabors) and H.E. Smith. He passed away at his home in Erick, Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 29 days.

Donald Hugh Smith was born November 7th, 1951 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Helen Floice (Nabors) and H.E. Smith. He passed away at his home in Erick, Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 29 days.

Donald, known by many as “Donnie”, grew up in the Sweetwater community where he attended school graduating in 1970. After graduation he furthered his education at Sayre Junior College and also joined the Army National Guard. He obtained his associates degree while working for Charles Smith in Erick, Oklahoma. Donnie later began driving a water truck for Wallie Moler hauling water to rig sites across western Oklahoma. In 1987 he met Carolyn Jean Hurst and they continued to have a relationship until they were married on November 6th, 1992. After their marriage they made their home in Erick and began working for Beckham county in 2005 and continued until his retirement in 2017. During his retirement he continued to have a strong work ethic by building his yard spraying business and caring for his cattle through ranching. He was a BIG Nascar fan, and he made the best peanut brittle. Donnie loved to give it to his family and friends during the holidays. He loved being around his grandchildren and also enjoyed caring for his 4 dogs.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Wayne Smith; twin sister, Debbie Sue Anderson; his dado, William Hugh Smith.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of the home; 2 children, Micheal Smith and wife, Sheila, Elk City, OK, Felicia Barrera and husband, Ivan, Elk City, OK; Taylor Lerena and husband, Sammy, Eryn Smith, Emily Smith, Mason Smith, Baylee Abla, Dylan Abla, and Kaden Barrera; 1 great grandson, Noah Abla; 2 sisters, Judy Hutchison and husband, James, Kingfisher, OK, Millie Greene, Sayre, OK; special brother-in-law, Pat Anderson, Sweetwater, OK; his fur babies, Barney, Taz, Rufus, and Oakley and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 8th, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Texola Baptist Church officiated by Brother Charlie Floyd. Arrangements are under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West. Condolences can be made online at www.classicfunerals.com
