Canute Varsity Trojans stole the lead late and defeated Sterling Tigers Varsity 8-4 on Thursday. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth Jake Beutler doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.
Sterling Tigers Varsity captured the lead in the second inning when Max Puccio doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
Canute Varsity Trojans evened things up at four in the bottom of the fifth inning. Beutler drove in one when Beutler doubled.
Owen Elliott led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Canute Varsity Trojans. The righthander went seven innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out two and walking one.
Jayden Huitt toed the rubber for Sterling Tigers Varsity. The pitcher went four and a third innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out three. Nate Anderson threw one and two-thirds innings in relief.
Canute Varsity Trojans scattered nine hits in the game. Brody Bryant and Beutler all collected multiple hits for Canute Varsity Trojans. Bryant went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Canute Varsity Trojans in hits.
